I had a chance to sit down with Chris Bobotis, Director of Immersive at Adobe, to discuss the current state of the VR industry and his hopes for the future of the medium. Though his main reason for being at SXSW was to speak on a panel entitled, “Immersive Tech: Hold on Things are Getting Real,” we delved into various areas of the format including some of the more engaging and promising immersive VR experiences he’s seen in his vast travels researching the technology and workflows around the world. We also talked specifically about the VR 180 format (now supported by Adobe Premiere Pro as of last fall) and its potential to shepherd independent VR film making. Ultimately, regardless of which format VR filmmakers choose to employ, Chris feels strongly that storytelling should come first.
