The Speakeasy Society’s ‘The Heart’ in Los Angeles

Immersive right down to the core

Hey folks. It’s been another news-filled week in immersive-land.

The Wall Street Journal had a big piece on what Nonny de la Peña’s Emblematic Group has been up to. Josephine Machon dropped news of the upcoming Punchdrunk encyclopedia; meanwhile there’s rumors of Punchdrunk moving into a new facility soon (with a new immersive show to boot). A giant spider and minotaur took over the streets of Toulouse in France. The folks at The Stage took a look inside the Gunpowder Plot in the UK. And students at SCAD have the first ever opportunity to major in augmented, virtual, and mixed reality. WITHIN announced their new AR app, “Wonderscope.” The LA Times visited Evermore Park in Utah. And Niantic announced they’re re-launching “Ingress” as “Ingress Prime” after the success of “Pokémon Go.”

Here NoPro land, our dear leader Noah is currently in Denver, giving the keynote at the Denver Immersive Summit. We interviewed some immersive creators in Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and reviewed some experiences in SF, LA, and NYC and a remote experience.

All those links and so much more, below!

IMMERSIVE DESIGN SUMMIT NEWS

The Immersive Design Summit is pleased to announce two more luminaries of the immersive world who’ll be joining us in San Francisco in February. Samantha Gorman and Tanya Leal Soto of art/game/tech studio Tender Claws, the company behind experiences like Virtual Virtual Reality, will be part of the 2019 Immersive Design Summit!

Tender Claws (founded by Samantha Gorman and Danny Cannizzaro) walks the line between art/experimentation and entertainment. Their next game is a long-form AR experience in collaboration with Google AR/VR about a virtual pet AI fish that feeds on people’s emotions to learn and grow.

Have you applied yet? Applications to attend the 2019 Immersive Design Summit are open through November 18, 11:59pm Pacific Time! 50% and fully-subsidized tickets are available.

Please help us spread the word about the Immersive Design Summit! We’re looking for a spectrum of creators across the genres of immersive installation, immersive theatre, interactive performance, alternate reality games, augmented reality, virtual reality, escape rooms, and live action role playing. Tell your friends and colleagues to apply!

For a taste of what it’s like, here’s Vince Kadlubek of Meow Wolf giving the closing keynote at January’s event:

Tad is all this, and more.

Get ready for a special in-the-field edition of No Proscenium as we join Tad on the Wolf Trail, where we’ve encountered a Moonglow.
