Everything Immersive This Week (11/16/2019)

The turning of the seasons

--

It’s been a quiet week, publishing-wise, but that belies what’s happening underneath the surface.

I know, because I’ve been doing a surprising amount of interviews this past week, pointing to a holiday season that will see a big push on the digital side of the immersive equation, and some fun new live projects as well.

Below you’ll find what we put out, some big news from our friends at Room Escape Artist, and news bits you may have missed on Twitter and over in the Everything Immersive group.

And now: off to go do the work this weekend so that next week can actually, ah, work.

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK

This week on the show we travel up to CalArts and talk with Sam Dubois, the creator of Albany CA’s The Avenue Adventure. Sam, now a sophomore at the University, got his start by creating the Albany Haunt when he was 12-years-old. He then ran it for five years.

The Avenue Adventure was Sam’s first crack at an Alternate Reality Game, and he managed to get the local Chamber of Commerce signed on. Look, what I’m saying to you is this: the next generation of immersive creators are here and they are going to run laps around everybody. Let’s gooooo.

REVIEWS

From No Proscenium:

From David & Lisa Spira of Room Escape Artist:

13th Hour Escape Rooms has become northern New Jersey’s most consistently high quality escape room company. It’s going to come as no surprise that The Trophy Room was a fun game. This was 13th Hour’s 6th escape room set in the Hayden Family’s Farm of torture, murder, and cannibalism. The facility itself was fully themed against this backdrop. As usual, this was a challenging, puzzley game in a grimly beautiful environment.

The Curse felt like a miniature 5 Wits. This Puzzah! location in Denver, CO was in a mall, right by the food court. The Curse was a compact, tech-driven, family-friendly puzzle game. It was bright, colorful, and approachable.
