Immersive is out here getting loose

Immersive-land never ever stands still. So what happened this week? A bunch of old emails leaked about Mark Zuckerberg’s intentions to acquire Unity back in 2015 as a way to dominate the AR/VR market; Wired also declared augmented reality the next big thing; Paramount Pictures’ resident futurist Ted Schilowitz also said in Forbes that mixed reality will actually be the main attraction in an XR world; some folks in London announced a huge walkthrough immersive horror attraction in a purpose-built-for-immersive space.

Meanwhile, here in NoPro land, our writers here have been out in the field going from gritty boxing arenas to the depths of Hell to the hills of Fair Verona, taking in a variety of immersive theatre shows this past week as well.

We do all this, and more, to bring you the best in immersive reporting from LA, NYC, London, and points beyond.

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK

Seasons change, time passes, friends move away… or up the street.

Think Tank Gallery is moving from its home at 939 Maple, the site of many a memory for immersive LA, to a new space at the edge of the Arts District and Little Tokyo. We get together with Jacob Patterson of Think Tank in the podcast studio at the Old Tank one last time to reminisce, talk about ongoing relations with the city of LA, and what’s next for Think Tank.

Content Advisory: we curse. As we often do.

STORIES

From NoProscenium.com and our Twitter feed:

From David & Lisa Spira of Room Escape Artist:

“Red herrings are one of the oldest and strangest debates in escape rooms. This is an unusual hot-button issue because there isn’t even consensus as to what constitutes a red herring in an escape room. In this piece, we explore different types of red herrings.”

From Kent Bye of the Voices of VR podcast:

“I had a chance to see the preview of Tenderclaw’s VR piece in Park City during Sundance that features live immersive theater actors from Piehole, and then discuss some of the lessons learned from this very ambitious fusion of immersive theater and virtual reality.”
