Everything Immersive This Week (8/17/2019)
People all over the world…
This week we’ve had some special surprises — like the offer by The College of Extraordinary Experiences to auction off two tickets to help NoPro out. (See the full details here.)
There’s also been a ton of shows announced, and the waves of them just keep coming.
Our Patreon campaign is picking up pace, but we’ve got a long way to go before we’re self-sustaining. If you value our work, consider pledging $1 or $5 a month. As little as 25 cents a week makes a huge difference to us both materially — hello, Mr. Landlord, sir — and spiritually.

ON THE PODCAST THIS WEEK
Jacob Patterson of Think Tank Gallery and Bobby of the Pizzaboyzzz join us as we visit the Tank at the edge of the Arts District in DTLA.
The current show is Nothing Cheezy, a pizza-themed collaborative art show that acts as both a parody of the ubiquitous “selfie palaces” and, well, it’s also a selfie palace. The show has been extended through mid-September and features special events pretty much every night for the price of admission.
Get ready for a freewheeling discussion about street art, selfie palaces, and the often complicated relationship between the two.
Content Advisory: strong language and sensitive subject matter. Listener discretion is advised.

STORIES
From the NoPro Team:
As a big fan of narratively driven, first person exploratory video games like Gone Home, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Firewatch, I’m excited to finally get a chance to try the expanded remount of Scout Expedition Co’s The Nest in Los Angeles, which combines elements of immersive theatre, video games, escape rooms, and podcasts like Serial and S-Town. Tickets go on sale to the public on August 23. This intimate experience for one or two people is expected to open on September 20 and run for three months. And of course, you can hear all about it on the NoPro podcast. — Kathryn Yu, NoPro Editor-At-Large

The Ode at Pint’s End
Chicago’s Birch House preps an immersive folk tale
The Ode at Pint’s End, written by Lauren N. Fields and Janie Killips, is an epic folktale that features traditional Irish music and new music by Janie Killips.
As they celebrate a full year on dry land, three Irish sailors recount the story of a shipwreck that changed their lives and the secrets they found at the bottom of the sea that still haunt them. Their tale unfolds in increasingly magical ways with the help of the mystical Merrows, the sailors’ wives, and the audience. The Ode at Pint’s End explores the journey from ambition to wisdom, the weight of our choices, and how we learn to let go.
